Ulzii, a teenager from an underprivileged neighborhood in Ulaanbaatar, is determined to win a physics science competition in order to secure a scholarship. His illiterate mother finds a job in the countryside, leaving him, his brother, and sister alone in the midst of winter. Ulzii wanders at night in search of items to burn for warmth, all while preparing for the national competition.
